Headaches PDF Print E-mail

Headaches are the number one nerve induced reason for lost work days according to the National Institute of Health.  Headaches are debilitating.  To a lesser extent, performance at work will suffer, time with family and friends lessens because of the pain, and recreational activities are modified.  To the extreme, headaches cause job loss, divorce, loss of social life and have ruined athletic performance.

Headaches are classified as either migraine, tension, cluster, hormonal, rebound (medication induced), or sinus.  Chiropractic care has been proven effective for headaches according to a recent Duke University study.  They found that chiropractic manipulations had immediate affects on headaches, less side effects, and longer lasting results when paired with muscle therapy as compared to many other treatment options.1

Further studies have shown that an abnormal position of your neck (see fig. 1) is the most probable cause of head pain.  Furthermore, treatment of such an abnormal position of the neck has provided relief (see fig. 2).  Figure 2 is the same patient in figure 1 after 9 weeks of care.

Simply put, an abnormal position of your neck puts pressure on the nerves, the spinal cord, muscles, bones, discs tendons and ligaments to a point that you experience pain.  Once that pressure can be removed by restoring the normal and healthy position of your neck or getting it to as near normal as possible, headache pain can resolve.
